Destination Guide to Khlong Khong, Koh Lanta

Khlong Khong village is more laid back and less developed than Khlong Dao and Prae Ae beaches further north, which adds to its charm. This area’s great for couples who are on a budget and want something away from the main tourist hub.

Khlong Khong Beach Guide

  • To be honest, it’s not the nicest beach on the island as there’s a rocky reef along the shore which you will need to maneuver around when swimming, however don’t let that rule it out as there are great spots that you can have all to yourself!
  • At the northern part of the beach (up till Lanta Meeting Point) the sand has quite rough and shelly which makes walking along there difficult
  • Khlong Khong beach is a great place to watch the sunset and enjoy a fire show at one of the beachside bars in the evening
  • Local Tip: Check out Bamboo Bay which is hidden between Relax Bay at the south of Prae Ae and the north of Khlong Khong. You will find it down an unsigned dirt road opposite the Chaya Salon. This secluded beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. There’s a small vendor selling cold drinks and fruit.

Where to eat & drink in Khlong Khong

  • Danny’s Restaurant: Delicious budget food. Thai basics such as fried rice and pad thai are only ฿50
  • Where Else: (That’s the name – ‘Where Else‘) Thai and Indian Food in a very relaxed atmosphere on the beach. I highly recommend their Mega Salad Naan with Chicken (฿180). It’s a delicious wrap where they dress the chicken in a yellow curry & yoghurt dressing, add a crisp salad and all served inside a fresh roti.
  • Sound Shack Bar: Laid back bar on stilts over the beach. Great place to lie in a hammock with a ฿100 happy hour cocktail in hand and while watching the sunset.
  • Bee Bee’s: Bee Bee Bungalows have a cool beachfront restaurant with treehuts and hammocks to chill out in. The menu includes some unique Thai dishes. Try the Fried Egg Salad with Tamarind Sauce, it’s a winner!
  • Peak Cafe: Where to go for your coffee fix! They have great fresh bread first thing in the morning too.

What to do in Khlong Khong

  • Massage: For the BEST massage we’ve had so far in Thailand, go to the traditional masseuse just a few doors down from the Kunda Vegetarian Vegan Cafe on the main road (note: go to the traditional one, not the std looking one)
